GLE/EALR of Wetland
Field Study Programs
K-2 -- Wetland
Wonderers
Program Goal: To
develop awareness, appreciation and understanding of
wetland habitats and the creatures that live in them.
(adaptations and habitats)
1.1.6 Understand characteristics of living organisms
1.3.8 Know that most living things need food, water and air
1.3.10 Know that plants and animals need a place to live
K-2 -- Soil
Adventurers
Program Goal: Students
will develop an awareness, appreciation and understanding
of soil (properties of soil in different areas, who makes
soil)
1.1.1 - Understand simple properties of familiar natural
and manufactured materials and objects
1.1.5 - Understand physical properties of Earth materials
1.1.6 - Understand characteristics of living organisms
1.3.10 - Know that plants and animals need a place to live
3.2.4 - Understand how humans depend on the natural
environment
3-5 -- Wetland
Naturalists
Program Goal: To
develop awareness, appreciation and understanding of
wetland habitats and the creatures who live in them.
(Importance of Wetland habitat focus)
1.2.1 - Analyze how the parts of a system go together and
how these parts depend on each other
2.1.1 - Understand how to ask a question about objects,
organisms and events in the environment
3.2.4 - Understand how humans depend on the natural
environment and can cause changes in the environment that
affects humans' ability to survive
4-6 -- Salmon
Stewards
Program Goal: To
provide students with a hands-on introduction to salmon
ecology, watershed components and water quality indicators
(salmon life cycle, tolerance levels, what makes a healthy
stream)
1.2.1 - Analyze how the parts of a system go together and
how these parts depend on each other
1.3.10 - Understand that that an organism's ability to
survive is influenced by the organism's behavior and the
ecosystem in which it lives
2.1.1 - Understand how to ask a question about objects,
organisms and events in the environment
3.2.4 - Understand how humans depend on the natural
environment and can cause changes in the environment that
humans' ability to survive
4-5 -- Ecosystem
Explorers
Program Goal: To
introduce students to wetlands and foster an understanding
how all life forms on Earth play a vital role and that all
life is connected. (Ecosystems, energy flow,
niches)
1.2.1 - Analyze how the parts of a system go together and
how these parts depend on each other
1.3.10 - Understand that that an organism's ability to
survive is influenced by the organism's behavior and the
ecosystem in which it lives
3.2.4 - Understand how humans depend on the natural
environment and can cause changes in the environment that
humans' ability to survive
6-8 -- Wetland
Ecologists
Program Goal: To
develop an awareness, appreciation and understanding of
wetland habitats. (scientific methods to measure stream
health, wetland delineation, protecting
wetlands)
1.1.6 - Understand how to classify organisms by their
external and internal structures
1.3.9 - Understand how organisms in ecosystems interact
with and respond to their environment and other organisms
3.2.4 - Analyze how human societies' use of natural
resources affects the quality of life and the health of
ecosystems
