Lucy's Legacy: The
Hidden Treasures Of Ethiopia (October 4, 2008 - March 8, 2009)
Come face-to-face with
the 3.2 million-year-old hominid fossil known as Lucy, an
early ancestor to humans. Her discovery in 1974 yielded a
new species, Australopithecus afarensis, and continues to
have a major impact on the scientific understanding of our
human origins. More than 100 items in the exhibit
illuminate Ethiopia's rich heritage, including fossils,
historical manuscripts, paintings, coins, musical
instruments, implements of daily use and religious
artifacts. Interactive science exhibits include: fossil
dating, teeth and bone comparison, Ethiopian crop
identification and more. Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity!
Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasures Of
Ethiopia is an international exhibition organized by
The Houston Museum of Natural Science in collaboration with
the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Federal
Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian
Exhibition Coordinating Committee. National funding for
Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasures Of Ethiopia is
provided by Ethiopian Airlines and The Smith Foundation.
The exhibition's presentation in Seattle has been made
possible with major support from the State of Washington,
City of Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and
King County. The Seattle Times and the Seattle P-I are the
official print sponsors of the Seattle exhibit. Support has
also been provided by The Boeing Company and the Safeco
Insurance Foundation. With additional support from Pacific
Science Center's Discovery Circle contributors.
GPS
Adventures (Late
March - May 3, 2009)
Get lost in the maze
and learn how to find your way using GPS! Simulate a GPS
adventure using a unique stamp card that leads each visitor
to their own Treasure City. By collecting all four stamps,
you will successfully simulate how a GPS unit locks into
four satellites to determine a location. But wait, you're
in a maze! After navigating around impassable obstacles
including waterfalls, cliffs, and ravines, you'll solve
cache puzzles in four environments: city, park,
back-country and a historic site, and undercover secret
codes that will gain you access to other exciting and
education experiences throughout the exhibit.

Animal
Grossology (May 23
- September 7, 2009)
Oozing with disgusting
science and interactive learning games, Animal Grossology
contains solid science and introduces it in a way that
makes kids giggle. You may think leeches are pretty gross
but they're used after some surgeries to assist in the
healing process. Did you know that cows are one of the
gassiest animals on Earth? Learn why the dung beetle is
nature's living pooper scooper and why scientists are
studying slug and snail slime production for clues in
treating cystic fibrosis.
