Thanks to a more than $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation, Pacific Science Center and three other educational institutions around the country are participating in a new project called Portal to the Public. The goal of Portal to the Public is to develop, implement, research, evaluate and communicate current science research to the public at informal science education organizations like Pacific Science Center.
The other organizations participating in the Portal to the Public program are: →Explora in Albuquerque, NM; →The North Museum of Natural History and Science in Lancaster, PA; and the →Institute of Learning Innovation in Annapolis, MD.
All Portal to the Public events will be developed and delivered in partnership with research organizations in an overall effort to improve the public's understanding of current science research.
"Our commitment to serving as a 'portal' is nothing new; we've worked with outside organizations on joint programs for years, including the annual Polar Science Weekend, developed in partnership with the UW's Applied Physics Laboratory," said Bryce Seidl, president and CEO for Pacific Science Center.
Look for more of these special event weekends, as well as lectures, workshops, exhibits and other programs in the future that will connect science and society.
