Exhibit Description
- Bicycle Wheel Gyroscope: Students stand on a wooden base that spins and hold a spinning bicycle wheel. As they tilt the wheel, the students experience changes in angular momentum. Gyroscopes are used on spacecraft to help astronauts determine their location and motion.
- Space Shuttle Robot
Arms: The robot arms are controlled with switches on
control boxes. There are two types of robot arms: a
gripper "hand" that picks up foam blocks and a magnetic
"hand" that picks up paper clips. The robot arm is very
similar to the real manipulator arm on the NASA Space
Shuttle, and students can simulate some space activities
that astronauts perform.
