Online Exhibits
Brain Power
includes 30 hands-on, portable exhibits. The exhibits
investigate the workings of the brain and the effects of
drugs on the brain. The following links allow the user to
interact with six of the exhibits. (The exhibit pages below require the
Adobe Flash player for viewing.)
Arachnid Addicts
Although a spider brain is very different than a human
brain, this exhibit demonstrates how drug use can have
negative consequences on some of the most basic activities
necessary for an individual to survive.
Which Brain is
Healthy?
Scientists and researchers use different techniques to
learn about brain activity. This exhibit introduces one of
the major neuroimaging techniques used in drug abuse
research, positron emission tomography (PET). This exhibit
provides a chance to see various PET scans comparing a
normal brain and a drug affected brain.
Walk the Line
This exhibit simulates the affect alcohol, barbiturates or
opiates can have on your brain's ability to control your
balance and coordination.
Head Trip
Learn information about common types of drugs including
their uses, long term effects and symptoms of abuse.
Delayed Reaction
This exhibit demonstrates how sedative drugs such as
opiates, barbiturates and alcohol can slow reaction time.
Lock and Key
This exhibit illustrates the process of addiction through a
lock and key analogy.
