Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the qualifications of your camp instructors?
All camp staff must go through extensive background checks and have their professional references contacted. All have previous experience working with children and are certified in CPR and First Aid. Camp Lead Teachers hold a bachelor's degree (or have equal teaching and childcare experience) and have previous experience in the science education field.

2. What do the campers do during extended day?
Due to the busy and structured schedule of camp, we give extended day campers a variety of choices. Options vary from playing games, to scavenger hunts and outdoor activities.

3. Can my child attend a camp in an older or younger age group even though he/she is not entering those grades?
No. Our camps are designed to be grade specific, catering to campers' academic, social and motor skills levels. A child will be able to enter a grade group only if he/she is currently in that grade.

4. Do I have to fill out and sign the medical/liability form?
Yes. Campers will only be admitted to camp if they have completed the medical/liability form. The photo release is optional.

5. Is extended day care available in the morning?
No. Extended day care is not available in the morning. However, at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center, campers can be dropped off after 8 a.m. free of charge. Children attending camp at Pacific Science Center may be dropped off 15 minutes before the camp starts.

6. Will any food be served to my child?
Some camps have camp-specific treats, including homemade ice cream served to campers attending the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center. Please include allergies and other concerns on your child's medical form. We recommend that in addition to sending a lunch with your child, you also include two snacks, one for the morning and one for the afternoon.
